Employment: Rate falls to 74.4% in 3 months to Jan 2007

The trends in both the employment rate and the unemployment rate are flat. The number of people in employment reached 31.58 million in December 2006, the highest figure since comparable records began in 1959.

The unemployment rate was 5.5 per cent, the number of unemployed people reach 1.69 million which was an increase of 151,000 over the year.

The average number of job vacancies for the three months to February 2007 was 622,800.

The redundancy rate for the three months to January 2007 was 5.4 per 1,000 employees.
